Exclude words, match exact phrases, and search titles on YouTube
Guide
When results contain too many unwanted videos, or you need words in a specific order, exclusion, phrase, and title conditions help. In Good Luck Search for YouTube, enter them under “More options” to build a search URL with the matching YouTube operators.
Exclude words (minus search)
Words in “Excluded words” are added to the search text with a - in front. Separate multiple words with spaces or commas (“,”, “,”, or “、”).
Example: keyword “Kyoto walk,” excluded “clips shorts” → Kyoto walk -clips -shorts
Keep word order (exact phrase)
Text in “Exact phrase” is wrapped in double quotation marks so the words stay in order. Double quotation marks you type are removed.
Example: phrase “a walk on a rainy day” → "a walk on a rainy day"
Words in the title (intitle:)
Text in “Words in title” is added with intitle:. Entries with spaces are wrapped in double quotation marks.
Example: “room tour” → intitle:"room tour", and “tour” → intitle:tour
Combine them
You can use these together, and with an upload date range. For example, keyword “Kyoto,” phrase
“rainy street,” excluded “ads,” and title “walk” produce Kyoto "rainy street" -ads intitle:walk.
Notes
How operators work depends on YouTube, and we cannot guarantee that every video is filtered as specified. If results are too few, remove some conditions.
To leave out short videos, see the Shorts and video length guide.
