Search YouTube by Shorts, video length, and captions

Guide

If results are full of Shorts, you only want long videos, or you need captions, choose conditions under “Content and filters.” Good Luck Search for YouTube reflects them in the YouTube search URL.

Exclude Shorts or search only Shorts

  • Only Shorts: choose “Shorts” as the type in “Content and filters.”
  • Without Shorts: choose “Videos” as the type. You can also add shorts to “Excluded words” under “More options” to reduce videos labeled as Shorts in their title or description.

We cannot guarantee that Shorts are removed completely.

Filter by video length

When the type is “All,” “Videos,” or “Movies,” you can choose one of these lengths.

  • Under 3 minutes
  • 3–20 minutes
  • 20 minutes or longer

Selecting Shorts, Channels, or Playlists clears the video length setting. “20 minutes or longer” helps when you look for long lectures or live stream archives.

Filter by features such as captions

You can choose Live, 4K, HD, Subtitles, Creative Commons, 360°, VR180, 3D, HDR, Location, and Purchased. To find videos with captions, choose “Subtitles.”

Combination limits

  • Video features cannot be chosen for “Channels” or “Playlists.”
  • For “Movies,” Live, Subtitles, Creative Commons, and 3D cannot be chosen.
  • Content type, video length, sort order, and video features are not applied to channel searches.

Some conditions use undocumented YouTube behavior and may not work as expected. To exclude words, see the exclude and exact phrase guide.
